Keep an eye on the hottest catwalk hemline length – THE MIDI. Not only does it give a wonderful leg-lengthening look – especially when teamed with the latest ankle strap high heels (see above) – but it gives the air of 1970’s sophistication and glamour.
It’s all about the proportions. Keep the waistline high for added length, maybe cinched with a wide belt, and keep the skirt slim fitting and pencil shaped right down to the hem. Fuller or pleated skirts are fine in lightweight jersey since it tends to cling to the body and give a fluid, figure hugging appearance. With the emphasis on a nicely turned ankle an eye-catching strappy sandal choice will perfectly detract from any shortcomings you may have in the lower leg department. Look for ankle-wrapping bows or laces, platform soles or wedges – and go for eye popping colors, the bolder the better! Hair should be worn sleek and up – or – for a genuine 70’s look (as illustrated in Marc Jacobs Spring 2011 catwalk show – top right photo), experiment with a ‘crimping iron’!
